Adrian Edmondson is a British comedian, actor, musician, television presenter, and author whose career has spanned five decades of British comedy and entertainment. He is best known for his partnership with Rik Mayall in The Young Ones and Bottom, and his autobiography reveals the range and depth of a life lived far beyond those beloved... anarchic comedies. Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1957, Edmondson grew up in various locations — including a spell in Uganda — before studying drama at the University of Manchester, where he met Rik Mayall. Together they formed a partnership that would produce some of the most memorable and anarchically violent comedy in British television history. The Young Ones (1982-1984) and The Comic Strip Presents... made them household names. Bottom (1991-1995) continued their partnership with a slapstick sitcom about two desperately sad, violent, and stupid men sharing a flat in Hammersmith. Edmondson and Mayall's physical comedy — elaborate, painful, and brilliantly choreographed — became their trademark. Beyond comedy, Edmondson has had a distinguished acting career in serious drama, including War and Peace (2016) and numerous theatre productions. He is an accomplished musician, leading the band The Bad Shepherds, which performs punk classics on folk instruments. He has also presented travel and cookery programmes.
