Alexandra David-Nรฉel (1868-1969) was a Belgian-French explorer, spiritualist, Buddhist and writer who became the first European woman to visit Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, in 1924. She spent over fourteen years travelling through Asia, studying Buddhist philosophy, practising meditation and exploring some of the most remote and forbidden places on earth. She lived to the age of one hundred, never losing her spirit of adventure.
Magic & Mystery in Tibet is her account of the spiritual practices, ceremonies and extraordinary phenomena she witnessed during her travels in Tibet, from yogic feats and oracular prophecy to telepathy and the creation of thought-forms. The book remains one of the most vivid and captivating accounts of Tibetan spiritual culture ever written by a Western observer.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, Magic & Mystery in Tibet offers extraordinary listening and reading โ a window into a vanished world of spiritual practice and adventure, written by one of the most remarkable travellers who ever lived.
