Allen Carr, John Dicey
Author
Allen Carr was a British author best known for his self-help books on quitting smoking and overcoming addictions, which have sold over fifty million copies worldwide and helped millions of people change their lives. Born in London in 1934, Carr was a chain smoker for over thirty years, smoking a hundred cigarettes a day at his peak. He... worked as an accountant before having a revelation in 1983 that led him to quit smoking instantly. Convinced he had discovered a method that could help others, he founded Allen Carr's Easyway clinics and wrote the books that would make him famous. Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking (1985) is one of the bestselling self-help books of all time. Rather than using willpower, scare tactics, or nicotine replacement, Carr's method works by changing how the reader thinks about smoking — removing the psychological desire rather than fighting it. The Easyway method has been adapted for alcohol, sugar, weight loss, gambling, and other addictions. Allen Carr's Easy Way to Better Sleep, co-written with John Dicey (who runs the Easyway organisation), applies the same principles to the widespread problem of poor sleep — helping readers address the anxiety and mental patterns that keep them awake. Carr died in 2006, but the Easyway organisation continues under Dicey's leadership, operating clinics worldwide. The audiobook editions of Carr's books are widely praised — the conversational, reassuring tone translates perfectly to audio. His books and audiobooks have changed millions of lives and continue to help people overcome addictions and improve their wellbeing. Read more Show less
