Andy McNab is the pen name of a British author and former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier whose military thrillers and memoirs have sold over fifty million copies worldwide. His identity is protected for security reasons — Andy McNab is a pseudonym, and his face is never shown in publicity material. McNab was born in 1959 and grew up... in South London. He joined the British Army as a teenager, eventually passing selection for the SAS. His military career included operations in Northern Ireland, Colombia, and the Middle East. During the First Gulf War in 1991, he commanded the Bravo Two Zero patrol — an eight-man SAS team sent behind Iraqi lines to destroy Scud missile launchers. The mission went wrong, and McNab was captured and held as a prisoner of war, enduring weeks of brutal interrogation and torture before being released. Bravo Two Zero (1993), his account of the mission, became one of the bestselling war books of all time and made McNab a household name. Immediate Action (1995), his autobiography, was equally successful. He then turned to fiction, beginning the Nick Stone thriller series — fast-paced, technically authentic action thrillers drawing on his military and intelligence experience. The series spans over twenty novels and remains hugely popular. He was awarded the Military Medal and the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his service, and despite the secrecy surrounding his identity, he has become one of the most recognisable names in military publishing.
