Angela Y. Davis is an American political activist, philosopher, academic, and author who has been at the forefront of movements for racial justice, prison abolition, and social change for over fifty years. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1944, she is a Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
