Anne McCaffrey was an American-born Irish novelist who was one of the most popular and influential science fiction and fantasy writers of the twentieth century. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1926, she became the first woman to win both the Hugo and Nebula Awards. She lived in Ireland from 1970 until her death.
A Gift of Dragons is a collection of stories set in her beloved Pern universe — a world where genetically engineered dragons and their telepathically bonded riders protect the planet from a deadly spore called Thread. The Dragonriders of Pern series, beginning with Dragonflight, spans dozens of novels and remains one of science fiction's most beloved series.
McCaffrey died in 2011. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers one of science fiction's greatest fictional worlds — Pern, where dragons fly, Thread falls, and the bond between dragon and rider is everything.
