Anne Meredith was the pen name of Lucy Beatrice Malleson (1899-1973), a British crime fiction author who also wrote as Anthony Gilbert. She was one of the most prolific and inventive mystery writers of the golden age of detective fiction, producing over a hundred novels under various pseudonyms.
Portrait of a Murderer is one of her most celebrated works — a dark, psychologically sophisticated crime novel that begins with the murder and then works backwards to reveal the pressures, resentments and desperation that led to it. The novel inverts the traditional whodunit by showing the reader who did it and then exploring why, creating a compelling study of a family under unbearable strain.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, Portrait of a Murderer offers compelling listening and reading for fans of golden age crime fiction and anyone who appreciates mysteries that are as interested in psychology and motive as they are in detection.
