Anthony Burgess was a British novelist, composer, and literary critic who is one of the most versatile and prolific writers of the twentieth century. Born in Manchester in 1917, he wrote over 30 novels, as well as poetry, music, and literary criticism. A Clockwork Orange is his most famous novel — a disturbing, linguistically inventive... story of ultra-violence and state control set in a dystopian future, narrated in an invented teenage slang called Nadsat. The novel was adapted into a landmark film by Stanley Kubrick. Burgess died in 1993.
