Anthony Gilbert was the pen name of Lucy Beatrice Malleson (1899–1973), a British author who was one of the most prolific and entertaining mystery writers of the golden age of detective fiction. She was a founding member of the Detection Club alongside Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers, and wrote over 60 novels featuring her sharp-witted, morally flexible lawyer-detective Arthur Crook.
Death in Fancy Dress is one of her classic mysteries, delivering the ingenious plotting, dry wit and unexpected twists that made her one of the best-loved crime writers of her era. Gilbert's mysteries are clever, pacey and full of the kind of surprises that keep readers guessing.
Her audiobooks and books are a treat for fans of golden age crime fiction who enjoy smart, well-plotted mysteries with a distinctly British flavour.
