Apuleius (c. 124–c. 170 AD) was a Roman author, philosopher, and rhetorician from North Africa whose writing represents one of the earliest and most entertaining prose narratives in Latin literature.
The Golden Ass (also known as Metamorphoses) is the only Latin novel to survive complete from antiquity. It tells the fantastical, bawdy, and deeply philosophical story of Lucius, a young man who is accidentally transformed into a donkey and must journey through the Roman world in search of the roses that will restore his human form. The novel includes the celebrated tale of Cupid and Psyche.
Apuleius's audiobooks and books bring this ancient masterpiece to modern listeners and readers. The Golden Ass appeals to lovers of classic literature, students of the ancient world, and anyone who enjoys stories that are simultaneously hilarious, profound, and unlike anything else in literature.
