Benjamin Stevenson
Author
Benjamin Stevenson is an Australian author and stand-up comedian whose clever, genre-bending mysteries have earned him an international following. He grew up in the small town of Read in Lancashire before his family moved to Australia, and he studied screenwriting at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. He has worked as a... literary agent and in television development. Stevenson's breakout novel Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone introduced readers to Ernest Cunningham, a mystery writer who applies the rules of classic crime fiction to solve a real murder at a family reunion. The book became a global phenomenon, selling over a million copies, winning the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Fiction, and being translated into more than thirty languages. Its sequel, Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect, continued the meta-mystery format to similar acclaim. What makes Stevenson's work distinctive is the way he combines genuine puzzle-box plotting with sharp humour and a deep love of the mystery genre's traditions. He plays fair with the reader while constantly surprising them, and his narrative voice — witty, self-aware, and engaging — makes his audiobooks and books a particular delight for listeners who enjoy being challenged and entertained in equal measure.
