Clare Pooley is a British author whose journey from alcoholism to sobriety inspired both a bestselling memoir and a career as a novelist. She worked in advertising for over twenty years, rising to the role of managing partner at one of London's top agencies, before her drinking spiralled out of control.
Pooley's memoir The Sober Diaries chronicled her first year of sobriety with brutal honesty and warmth, and became a Sunday Times bestseller. She then turned to fiction with The Authenticity Project, a novel about a notebook in which people write their truths, which is left in a café and passed from stranger to stranger, connecting six people whose lives are changed by their encounters with each other's honesty. The novel was a New York Times bestseller. Her subsequent novels continue to explore connection, community, and the courage it takes to be honest.
Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers warm, life-affirming fiction and memoir about the transformative power of truth-telling — stories that celebrate what happens when people stop pretending and start connecting.
