Daniel Defoe was an English novelist, journalist, and spy who is widely regarded as one of the founders of the English novel. Born in London around 1660, he had a remarkably varied career before publishing Robinson Crusoe in 1719 at the age of fifty-nine. The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe continues the story of Defoe's most... famous character as he returns to his island and embarks on further travels across the world. Robinson Crusoe itself is one of the most influential novels in the English language, establishing the castaway survival story as a permanent fixture of world literature. Defoe also wrote Moll Flanders, A Journal of the Plague Year, and Roxana. Defoe died in 1731.
