Douglas Rogers is a Zimbabwean-born journalist and author based in the United States. He has written for the New York Times, the Daily Telegraph, Condรฉ Nast Traveler and numerous other publications, drawing on his deep knowledge of Zimbabwe and southern Africa.
The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe is his account of returning to the farm in eastern Zimbabwe where he grew up, now a backpacker lodge run by his parents during the turbulent years of Robert Mugabe's land reform programme. The book is a vivid, often darkly funny and deeply personal account of a country in crisis, told through the lens of one family's determination to hold on.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, The Last Resort offers gripping listening and reading โ a family memoir, a political story and a love letter to a troubled country, told with wit, honesty and genuine emotional power.
