Author
Eileen Power was a British medieval historian who was one of the most distinguished and innovative historians of her generation. Born in 1889, she held positions at the London School of Economics, where she was professor of economic history, and at Girton College, Cambridge. Medieval People, first published in 1924, remains one of the... most widely read and beloved works of medieval history, bringing the Middle Ages to life through intimate portraits of six ordinary people from different walks of life and different centuries, including a peasant, a merchant's wife and Marco Polo. Power's genius was her ability to make medieval history vivid, human and accessible at a time when the discipline was dominated by dry institutional narratives. Her writing style, at once scholarly and engaging, has influenced generations of historians. Her audiobooks and books continue to introduce readers to the medieval world with warmth, scholarship and a gift for storytelling. She died in 1940. Read more Show less
