Eleanor Parker is a British historian and author who specialises in medieval English literature and history. She is a lecturer at Brasenose College, Oxford, and writes the popular blog A Clerk of Oxford, which explores the literature, history and culture of medieval England for a wide audience.
Conquered examines the Norman Conquest of 1066 and its aftermath from the perspective of the English — the people who lost. Parker tells the story of the decades following the Conquest through the eyes of those whose world was destroyed, exploring how the English experienced, resisted and eventually adapted to their new Norman rulers.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, Conquered offers essential listening and reading for anyone interested in medieval history who wants to understand 1066 not as a triumph but as a catastrophe — told from the perspective of those whose country was taken from them.
