Ellen Wilkinson was a British Labour politician and feminist who served as the first female Minister of Education in 1945. Born in Manchester in 1891, she was known as 'Red Ellen' for her fiery left-wing politics and became famous for leading the Jarrow March in 1936. The Division Bell Mystery, published in 1932, is her sole novel — a political murder mystery set in the House of Commons that offers a fascinating insider's view of Westminster. The audiobook brings this unusual piece of political fiction back to life, combining genuine parliamentary atmosphere with a whodunit plot. Wilkinson died in office in 1947.
