Emeric Pressburger was a Hungarian-born British screenwriter, film director, and novelist. Together with Michael Powell, he formed the legendary Powell and Pressburger filmmaking partnership, creating masterpieces including The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death, and Black Narcissus. The Glass Pearls, reissued as a Faber Edition, is his atmospheric thriller about a man hiding a dark past in 1960s London.
