Author
Eoin Colfer is an Irish author best known for the Artemis Fowl series, one of the most successful children's fantasy franchises of the twenty-first century. Born in Wexford, Ireland, in 1965, he studied at Dublin City University, qualified as a primary school teacher, and taught for several years — including stints in Saudi Arabia,... Tunisia, and Italy — before becoming a full-time writer. The Artemis Fowl series, which began in 2001, follows a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind who discovers a technologically advanced fairy civilisation living beneath the Earth's surface. The eight-book series has sold over twenty-five million copies worldwide and was adapted into a Disney film. Colfer has also written the WARP series, the Highfire novels, Airman, and was chosen by the Douglas Adams estate to write the sixth Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novel, And Another Thing... Colfer's writing is characterised by its wit, inventiveness, and ability to appeal to both children and adults. His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers wildly inventive, funny, and action-packed stories that prove children's fiction can be every bit as clever and entertaining as anything written for adults.
