Eric Ambler was a British novelist who is widely credited with transforming the spy thriller from pulp entertainment into a serious literary form. Born in London in 1909, he worked in advertising and engineering before becoming a full-time writer. He influenced every major espionage novelist who followed, including John le Carrรฉ and Graham Greene.
A Coffin for Dimitrios (also published as The Mask of Dimitrios) follows a mystery writer who becomes obsessed with tracing the criminal career of a dead man across pre-war Europe. The novel is a masterpiece of atmospheric suspense that reveals the corruption underlying European politics. Ambler's pre-war thrillers are considered some of the finest in the genre.
Ambler died in 1998. His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers the finest vintage espionage fiction โ thrillers that invented the modern spy novel and remain as gripping as ever.
