Fergus Hume was a British-born author who lived much of his life in Australia and New Zealand and is best remembered for writing The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, which was one of the bestselling mystery novels of the nineteenth century. Born in 1859, Hume wrote over one hundred novels during his prolific career. The Green Mummy is a mystery novel that combines elements of detective fiction with the exotic and the supernatural, featuring a mysterious Egyptian mummy at the centre of a web of intrigue and murder. Hume's work helped establish many of the conventions of detective fiction that would be refined by later writers. While The Mystery of a Hansom Cab remains his most famous book, his extensive body of work demonstrates a versatile and inventive mind that kept audiences entertained for decades. His audiobooks and books preserve the work of a writer who played a significant role in the development of the mystery genre. He died in 1932.
