Frank Dickens (1932-2016) was a British cartoonist and author best known for creating Bristow, one of the most beloved British newspaper comic strips. Bristow ran in the Evening Standard from 1962 to 2001, following the misadventures of the eponymous office worker trapped in the numbing routine of corporate life. The strip was a masterclass in observational humour about the daily grind of office work.
Dickens's creation captured the absurdity, boredom and quiet rebellion of office life with gentle wit and sharp observation. Bristow became a cultural touchstone for generations of British workers who recognised themselves and their colleagues in its panels.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, Bristow offers nostalgic and entertaining listening and reading for fans of British humour, office comedy and the fine art of doing as little work as possible while appearing busy.
