George Mackay Brown was a Scottish poet, novelist, and short story writer from Orkney who is regarded as one of Scotland's finest twentieth-century writers. Born in Stromness in 1921, he spent almost his entire life in Orkney, and the islands' landscapes, history, and Norse heritage permeate his work. Beside the Ocean of Time, shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1994, follows a young boy's daydreams spanning centuries of Orcadian history. The audiobook captures the lyrical, meditative quality of Brown's prose. He died in 1996.
