Helon Habila is a Nigerian author, poet, and academic whose literary fiction explores the human and environmental costs of Nigeria's oil industry, political instability, and the experience of African immigrants. His novel Oil on Water follows two journalists investigating the kidnapping of a British oil worker's wife in the Niger Delta, creating a haunting portrait of ecological devastation and human resilience. Habila won the Caine Prize for African Writing and has taught creative writing at George Mason University.
