Hugh Howey is an American science fiction author whose Silo series — originally self-published — became one of the great success stories of independent publishing and a major television series. Born in 1975 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Howey has lived an unconventional life — he has worked as a yacht captain, a bookseller, and a roofer, and spent years sailing and travelling before his writing career took off.
