James Smythe is a British author of science fiction, literary fiction, and video game narratives whose work explores isolation, identity, and the nature of time. He received his PhD in Creative Writing from Cardiff University and teaches creative writing at Roehampton University in London. He has also written scripts for video games,... including the award-winning indie title Dicey Dungeons. His novel The Explorer follows journalist Cormac Easton on the first manned mission into deep space, where the crew wake from hypersleep to find their captain dead — and things only get stranger from there. The novel has been compared to Moon meets Groundhog Day, combining claustrophobic space horror with mind-bending temporal puzzles. His other novels include The Testimony, The Machine, No Harm Can Come to a Good Man, and the Anomaly Quartet series.
