John Cleland was an eighteenth-century English novelist best known for Fanny Hill, or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure, published in 1748. The book is considered the first English prose pornography and one of the most prosecuted and banned books in history. Despite its scandalous reputation, Fanny Hill is also recognised as a significant work of early English fiction. Available as an audiobook and book, it continues to fascinate readers and listeners as both a literary curiosity and a milestone in publishing history.
