John Lanchester is a British novelist, journalist, and non-fiction author whose work ranges from literary fiction to sharp, accessible writing about economics and technology. Born in Hamburg in 1962, he grew up in various countries and studied English at Oxford. He is a contributing editor at the London Review of Books.
Capital follows a group of residents on a single London street in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis, weaving together the lives of a banker, a Pakistani shopkeeper, a Senegalese football player, and others to create a panoramic portrait of modern London. Lanchester has also written Whoops!, about the financial crisis, and The Wall, a dystopian novel about immigration and climate change.
His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers intelligent, engaging fiction and non-fiction about money, power, and the forces shaping contemporary life.
