Julia Cameron is an American author, artist, poet, playwright, filmmaker, and creativity teacher whose work has influenced millions of people seeking to unlock their creative potential. Born in 1948 in Libertyville, Illinois, she studied at Georgetown University and began her career as a journalist and screenwriter. She was married to filmmaker Martin Scorsese in the 1970s and worked in Hollywood before dedicating herself to teaching creativity.
Cameron's seminal work The Artist's Way, first published in 1992, has sold over five million copies and been translated into more than forty languages. The book lays out a twelve-week programme for recovering creativity, centred on two core practices: Morning Pages (three pages of longhand writing done first thing each day) and the Artist Date (a weekly solo excursion to nurture the creative self). The programme has been adopted by writers, musicians, painters, entrepreneurs, and anyone feeling creatively blocked.
She has written over forty books, including The Right to Write, Walking in This World, and The Listening Path, each extending and deepening her philosophy of creativity as a spiritual practice. Her audiobooks and books continue to guide listeners and readers through the process of reconnecting with their innate creativity, offering practical tools alongside a generous, encouraging philosophy of artistic life.
