Kahlil Gibran was a Lebanese-American poet, writer, and artist, and one of the most widely read poets of the twentieth century. Born in Becharre, Lebanon, in 1883, he emigrated to America as a young man and wrote in both Arabic and English. His masterwork The Prophet, published in 1923, has been translated into over one hundred languages... and has never been out of print.
