Kamila Shamsie is a British-Pakistani novelist whose fiction explores identity, migration, politics, and the legacies of empire with intelligence and emotional power. Born in Karachi in 1973, she has lived in London and Karachi and teaches Creative Writing at the University of Manchester. She was awarded a CBE for services to... literature. Best of Friends follows two women whose friendship, forged in 1980s Karachi, is tested when they are reunited in modern London and a choice from the past threatens everything. Shamsie's previous novel Home Fire, a modern retelling of Sophocles' Antigone set against the backdrop of radicalisation, won the Women's Prize for Fiction. Her fiction consistently engages with the politics of belonging and the costs of divided loyalties.
