Kate Mosse is a British author, broadcaster, and campaigner best known for her internationally bestselling historical novels, particularly the Languedoc Trilogy, which begins with Labyrinth and has sold millions of copies worldwide. She is also the co-founder and chair of the board of the Women's Prize for Fiction, one of the most... important literary awards in the world. Born in Chichester, West Sussex in 1961, Mosse studied English at New College, Oxford, and has had a varied career spanning publishing, journalism, and broadcasting. She served as deputy chair of the National Theatre and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Labyrinth, published in 2005, was her breakthrough novel — an epic dual-timeline story linking a present-day archaeologist in Carcassonne with a young woman in thirteenth-century Languedoc during the Cathar crusade. The novel became an international bestseller, translated into over thirty-eight languages, and established Mosse as a master of historical fiction that weaves real history with gripping narrative. Sepulchre and Citadel completed the Languedoc Trilogy, each exploring a different era of southern French history. Mosse has also written the Joubert Family series, set in wartime Carcassonne, including The Burning Chambers, The City of Tears, and The Ghost Ship. These novels explore the French Wars of Religion in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries with her characteristic blend of meticulous research and page-turning storytelling. Beyond her historical fiction, Mosse has written contemporary novels, non-fiction including Becoming a Mother and The House, and has edited anthologies. Her work as co-founder of the Women's Prize for Fiction (formerly the Orange Prize) has been instrumental in championing and celebrating women's writing.
