Laurie Lee was an English poet, novelist, and memoirist whose autobiographical trilogy is one of the most beloved and beautifully written works of English prose — a lyrical celebration of rural life, youth, and the adventure of stepping into the wider world. Born in Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1914, Lee grew up in the village of Slad in... the Cotswolds — a childhood he would immortalise in his writing. He left school at fifteen and eventually walked to London, then across Spain, experiences that formed the basis of his most celebrated books.
