Leonora Carrington (1917–2011) was a British-born Mexican artist, novelist, and surrealist whose work has been recognised as among the most original and important of the twentieth century. Born in Lancashire, she defied her upper-class family's expectations to become part of the Surrealist movement in Paris before eventually settling in Mexico City, where she lived for the rest of her life.
The Hearing Trumpet, her best-known novel, is a wildly imaginative, darkly funny tale of a ninety-two-year-old woman who is sent to an institution by her family and discovers a surreal world of conspiracy, transformation, and feminist rebellion. The novel is considered a masterpiece of surrealist literature and feminist fiction.
Carrington's audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers access to one of the most original imaginations of the modern era. The Hearing Trumpet is essential reading for fans of surrealism, feminist literature, and anyone who appreciates fiction that is genuinely, thrillingly unlike anything else.
