Lisa Ridzén
Author
Lisa Ridzén is a Swedish novelist and sociologist whose debut novel became a literary sensation in Sweden and beyond. Born in 1988, she grew up in the village of Hegled in rural Jämtland, where both her parents were teachers. She studied gender studies and sociology at Umeå University and is currently pursuing a PhD at Mid Sweden... University, researching masculinity norms in the rural communities of the Swedish far north. Her debut novel When the Cranes Fly South follows an elderly man attempting to mend his relationship with his son, inspired by notes Ridzén's grandfather's care team left the family as he neared the end of his life. The book won the Swedish Book of the Year award in 2024, sold over 165,000 copies in Sweden, and has been translated into at least thirty-four languages. The English translation by Alice Menzies was an Indies Introduce selection and an Indie Next List top pick. Ridzén writes from deep personal knowledge of the rural Swedish communities she depicts. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers a tender, emotionally powerful story about family, ageing, and the things left unsaid between fathers and sons. Read more Show less
