Ludwig Bemelmans was an Austrian-American author and illustrator, best known for creating the beloved Madeline series of children's books. Born in 1898, he emigrated to America as a teenager and worked in the hotel industry before becoming a writer and artist. Hotel Splendide is his witty, charming autobiographical account of his early years working in New York's grand hotels, filled with colourful characters, comic misadventures, and the sharp observational humour that would define his career. Bemelmans died in 1962. His audiobooks and books continue to delight readers and listeners with their warmth, humour, and the vivid world of early twentieth-century hospitality.
