Martin J. Sherwin (1937–2021) was an American historian who, together with co-author Kai Bird, wrote American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the definitive biography of the physicist who led the development of the atomic bomb. The book took twenty-five years to research and write, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography. It was adapted into the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2023 film Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. Sherwin's meticulous scholarship and narrative skill produced one of the great biographies of the twentieth century. His audiobooks and books are essential for anyone interested in the history of science, the atomic age, and the moral complexities of scientific achievement.
