Michael Connelly
Author
Michael Connelly is one of the most acclaimed and bestselling crime fiction writers in the world. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has created some of the most memorable characters in the genre — most notably the Los Angeles detective Harry Bosch and the defence attorney Mickey Haller — and produced a body of work that... stands as a towering achievement in American crime fiction. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1956, Connelly grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He studied Journalism at the University of Florida and worked as a crime reporter, first in Daytona Beach and then for the Los Angeles Times, where he covered the crime beat and the criminal courts. This experience gave him an intimate knowledge of police work, courtroom procedure, and the city of Los Angeles that permeates every page of his fiction. His debut novel, The Black Echo, published in 1992, introduced Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch — a Vietnam veteran turned LAPD homicide detective named after the fifteenth-century painter. The novel won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel and launched a series that now spans over twenty books. Bosch is one of crime fiction's great creations — driven, stubborn, haunted, and guided by the belief that every victim deserves justice, no matter how cold the case. The Lincoln Lawyer, published in 2005, introduced Mickey Haller, a charismatic defence attorney who operates out of the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car. The novel was adapted into a film starring Matthew McConaughey and later a hugely successful Netflix series. Connelly has masterfully woven the Bosch and Haller worlds together — the characters are half-brothers — creating an interconnected universe that rewards dedicated readers. His other series character, Renée Ballard, a young detective working the night shift at Hollywood Division, has added a fresh perspective and new energy to his fictional Los Angeles. The audiobook editions of Connelly's novels are outstanding, with narrators including Titus Welliver (who also plays Bosch in the Amazon Prime series) and Peter Giles delivering performances that capture the noir atmosphere and moral complexity of the books. Connelly's prose style — clean, precise, and propulsive — translates perfectly to audio. Michael Connelly lives in Tampa, Florida and continues to write at a prolific pace. His books and audiobooks are essential for anyone who loves crime fiction that combines literary quality with gripping, page-turning storytelling. Read more Show less
