Nancy Mitford was an English novelist, biographer, and journalist whose sparkling, witty fiction about the English upper classes has delighted readers for over seventy years. Born in 1904 into the famous Mitford family — one of six sisters who became public figures in wildly different ways — she grew up in the Cotswolds, was largely... educated at home, and moved to Paris after the war, where she lived for the rest of her life. Mitford also wrote acclaimed biographies of Madame de Pompadour, Louis XIV, and Voltaire, and famously defined the concept of 'U and non-U' language. She died in 1973.
