Peter Robinson was a British-Canadian crime writer best known for the Inspector Banks series, one of the longest-running and most acclaimed detective series in modern crime fiction. Born in Armley, Leeds, in 1950, he studied English Literature at the University of Leeds before emigrating to Canada, where he earned an MA from the... University of Windsor and a PhD from York University. He divided his time between Toronto and Richmond, North Yorkshire. Robinson published twenty-seven Inspector Banks novels over more than three decades, beginning with Gallows View in 1987. The series, including A Dedicated Man, follows Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks through complex cases set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales. The novels were adapted into a long-running ITV television series. Robinson won numerous awards including the Arthur Ellis Award, the Edgar Award nominee status, and the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière. Robinson died in October 2022, leaving behind one of the finest bodies of work in British crime fiction.
