Peter Tinniswood (1936–2003) was a British novelist, playwright, and screenwriter celebrated for his comic writing about northern English life. He is best known for his Uncle Mort series, which follows the adventures of a gloriously cantankerous Yorkshire pensioner, and for his work on the television series I Didn't Know You Cared. Tinniswood's humour was rooted in affectionate observation of working-class northern culture, family dynamics, and the eccentricities of everyday life. His writing has been compared to that of Alan Bennett for its warmth and wit. His audiobooks and books remain a treat for fans of British comic fiction who appreciate dry humour and richly drawn characters.
