Peter Wohlleben is a German forester and bestselling author who has transformed the way millions of people think about trees and the natural world. Born in Bonn in 1964, he studied forestry at the University of Applied Forest Sciences in Rottenburg and spent over twenty years working as a forester for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate before taking charge of an environmentally managed forest in the Eifel region.
Wohlleben's international bestseller The Hidden Life of Trees revealed the complex social networks, communication systems, and cooperative behaviours of forests, arguing that trees care for their sick, share nutrients through underground networks, and even have something akin to feelings. The book sold over three million copies worldwide and was translated into more than forty languages, sparking a global conversation about our relationship with forests. He has since published numerous follow-up books including The Secret Network of Nature, The Weather Detective, and The Heartbeat of Trees.
His work bridges scientific research and accessible storytelling, drawing on both peer-reviewed studies and his own decades of observation. His audiobooks and books have inspired a new generation of readers and listeners to see forests not as resources to be exploited but as complex, interconnected communities deserving of respect and protection.
