Robert Thorogood

Robert Thorogood is a British author, screenwriter, and the creator of Death in Paradise, one of the BBC's most popular and enduring television series. His crime fiction brings the same blend of warmth, wit, and classic puzzle-mystery plotting that has made the show a beloved fixture of British television. Thorogood created Death in Paradise in 2011, setting the show on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, where a succession of brilliantly awkward British detectives investigate murders among the colourful local community. The show has been a ratings hit for over a decade, combining the charm of a cosy mystery with sun-drenched settings and endearing characters. His novels include the Death in Paradise tie-in books and the Marlow Murder Club series, which follows Judith Potts, a seventy-seven-year-old crossword setter who lives in a ramshackle house by the Thames in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and who becomes an unlikely amateur detective when she witnesses a murder. Death Knocks Twice and further Marlow Murder Club novels continue the series. Thorogood writes classic whodunits with a distinctly British sensibility — his mysteries are fair-play puzzles where the clues are planted for the reader, his characters are eccentric and loveable, and his tone balances genuine mystery with warmth and gentle comedy. He understands that the appeal of the cosy mystery lies not just in solving the puzzle but in spending time with characters you enjoy and in settings that feel like a welcome escape from everyday life. The audiobook editions of Thorogood's novels are hugely entertaining, with narrators capturing the warmth and wit of his storytelling. His books and audiobooks are perfect for fans of cosy crime, classic whodunits, and anyone who wants their murders served with charm, sunshine, and a smile.
