Roger Deakin was a British writer, filmmaker, and environmentalist whose nature writing has achieved classic status since his death. Born in 1943, he lived at Walnut Tree Farm in Suffolk, a moated Elizabethan farmhouse that became central to his writing. He was a co-founder of Common Ground. Notes from Walnut Tree Farm is a posthumously... published collection of his journals, recording his observations of the natural world around his Suffolk home with the detailed, loving attention that characterised all his work. His earlier book Waterlog, about swimming wild across Britain, is considered a classic of nature writing. Wildwood, about the world's forests, was published after his death. Deakin died in 2006.
