S.A. Barnes

Author

S.A. Barnes is an American author of science fiction horror whose work combines the claustrophobic tension of deep space settings with psychological horror that gets under readers' skin. Her novel Cold Eternity continues her exploration of the terrifying possibilities that await humanity among the stars, where isolation, technology, and... the dark corners of the human mind combine to create situations far more frightening than any alien threat. Barnes made a significant impact with Dead Silence, a sci-fi horror novel set aboard a derelict luxury space liner that was widely praised for its atmospheric tension, its clever plotting, and its ability to genuinely unsettle readers. Her writing draws on the traditions of science fiction horror established by films like Alien and Event Horizon and authors like Madeleine Roux, creating narratives where the vastness and emptiness of space amplify human fears and vulnerabilities. Barnes's prose is taut and atmospheric, building dread through careful pacing, vivid sensory detail, and characters whose psychological fragility makes them compelling and relatable even as their situations become increasingly terrifying. Her work appeals to readers who enjoy the intersection of science fiction and horror, where technological marvels and cosmic wonder are shadowed by existential dread. Cold Eternity is available as an audiobook, offering listeners an immersive, spine-tingling experience that proves space really can hear you scream. Read more Show less
