Sandi Toksvig
Author
Sandi Toksvig is a Danish-British comedian, broadcaster, author, and political activist who is one of the most versatile and beloved figures in British cultural life. Her work spans comedy, television presenting, children's fiction, adult non-fiction, playwriting, and political campaigning, and she brings warmth, wit, and formidable... intelligence to everything she does. Born in Copenhagen in 1958, Toksvig moved to various countries as a child — her father was a foreign correspondent for Danish television — before settling in England. She was educated at Girton College, Cambridge, where she was a member of the Footlights. Her broadcasting career has been extraordinarily prolific. She has presented QI (succeeding Stephen Fry), co-hosted The Great British Bake Off, chaired The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4, and appeared on countless panel shows, documentaries, and chat programmes. She co-founded the Women's Equality Party in 2015. Between the Stops (2019) is a memoir structured around her London bus route, with each stop triggering memories, anecdotes, and reflections about her life, her family, her career, and the issues she cares about. It is funny, moving, and full of the kind of unexpected connections and digressions that make Toksvig such a compelling companion on page and screen. She has also written numerous children's books, novels, plays, and other non-fiction works. Toksvig is an openly gay woman who has spoken publicly about the challenges and joys of living authentically, and she has been a powerful advocate for LGBTQ+ rights throughout her career. The audiobook edition of Between the Stops, read by Toksvig herself, is a particular pleasure — her warmth, comic timing, and distinctive voice make it a delightful listen. Her books and audiobooks are essential for anyone who values wit, intelligence, and the ability to find the extraordinary in everyday life. Read more Show less
