Stephen Baxter is one of Britain's most prolific and acclaimed science fiction writers, known for his ambitious hard science fiction that spans vast scales of time and space. Born in Liverpool in 1957, he studied Mathematics at Cambridge University, earned a research degree in engineering from Southampton University, and holds an MBA. He has been publishing science fiction since 1987.
Baxter's extensive bibliography includes the Xeelee Sequence (a far-future history spanning millions of years), the Manifold trilogy, the Time's Tapestry series, the Long Earth series (co-written with Terry Pratchett), and many standalone novels. Creation Node follows a crew that reaches the edge of the solar system only to discover that what they thought was a black hole is something far stranger — an artificial planet containing alien life. His work is characterised by its scientific rigour, its cosmic scope, and its willingness to confront the largest questions about humanity's place in the universe.
Baxter has won numerous awards including the Philip K. Dick Award, the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, and the British Science Fiction Award. His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers science fiction at its most ambitious — stories that reach across billions of years while never losing their human heart.
