Stuart MacBride is a Scottish crime fiction author best known for his Logan McRae series — dark, gritty, and blackly comic police procedurals set in Aberdeen and the northeast of Scotland. The Logan McRae series now comprises over a dozen novels, including Dying Light, Flesh House, Dark Blood, Close to the Bone, and 22 Dead Little Bodies. The books are set in a vividly realised Aberdeen — cold, rain-lashed, and populated by a memorable cast of detectives, criminals, and deeply eccentric supporting characters. MacBride's Aberdeen is a place where horrible things happen in mundane settings, and where the police officers investigating them are as flawed and human as anyone else. What distinguishes MacBride's writing is his combination of genuinely dark subject matter with a mordant, pitch-black sense of humour.
