Tamsyn Muir is a New Zealand-born fantasy author whose Locked Tomb series has become one of the most celebrated and distinctive fantasy sequences of the twenty-first century. She grew up in Howick, Auckland, and lives in Oxford, England. She began publishing short fiction and won the Eugie Foster Memorial Award before her novels launched her to international fame.
Gideon the Ninth, the first book in the Locked Tomb series, combines necromancy with a locked-room murder mystery in a decaying gothic space station, told in a voice that mixes high fantasy with internet-age irreverence. The series has been described as 'lesbian necromancers in space' and has won the Locus Award and been a Hugo Award finalist. Subsequent books — Harrow the Ninth, Nona the Ninth, and Alecto the Ninth — expand the series with wildly different narrative structures and perspectives.
Muir's writing is utterly unlike anything else in fantasy — structurally daring, darkly funny, and genuinely moving. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers fantasy that refuses to be what you expect, from a writer whose imagination and wit are matched only by her ambition.
