V. V. Ganeshananthan
Author
V. V. Ganeshananthan is a Sri Lankan-American novelist and journalist whose fiction explores the Sri Lankan civil war and its aftermath with extraordinary emotional and political complexity. She teaches in the MFA programme at the University of Minnesota and has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other... publications. Her debut novel Love Marriage was longlisted for the Orange Prize. Brotherless Night, her second novel, follows a young Tamil medical student in Jaffna during the Sri Lankan civil war, as she navigates the impossible choices forced upon civilians caught between government forces and Tamil separatist militants. The novel was a finalist for the Women's Prize for Fiction, longlisted for the National Book Award, and won the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers powerful, nuanced fiction about a conflict that too few people in the West understand — a novel that refuses to simplify the Sri Lankan civil war while making its human cost devastatingly clear.
